The Communications Division of the Gibson County Sheriff's Department handles all radio communications for all fire and emergency medical services and all law enforcement agencies in Gibson County. The division is headed by Enhanced 911 Coordinator Christopher Ziebell. The IDACS Coordinator is Lisa Viton.
The communications center is located in a secure room within the Gibson County Jail. All 9-1-1 emergency telephone calls are answered at the communications center. Twin radio consoles have abilities for communications over these frequencies: Gibson County Sheriff, Princeton Police, Gibson County Ambulance, Gibson County Fire, Point-to-Point and Gibson County Paging. The consoles also monitor the Sheriff's tactical frequency and the Indiana Law Enforcement Emergency Network frequency (ILEEN).
All radio traffic and 911 calls are recorded by two methods: digital quick call and 32-hour digital tape. The digital quick call system stores calls on the 9-1-1 computer console for immediate playback, while the digital system stores calls on microcassettes for 14 days.
In addition to answering all incoming 911 calls and radio traffic, Communications Officers perform all license checks and NCIC/IDACS inquiries through a computer system that is connected via telephone and microwave signal to the Indiana State Police headquarters in Indianapolis.
Having received the approval of the Gibson County Commissioners and the Gibson County Council, Enhanced 911 telephone service began in mid-1998.
