
November 21, 2003- A semi-pick-up truck accident sent one man to Deaconess Hospital via Life Flight. Gibson County Central Dispatch received the call at approximately 1:15PM about the accident on US41/ Lyles Station Road. Preliminary reports indicate that 39 year old Peter Smith of Clay City, IN ran the automated traffic signal southbound on US41N, striking a 1988 pickup driven by Frank Utley age 89 of Princeton. Utley was traveling east on CR 100N (Lyles Station Rd.). Smith was hauling grain in a 1990 semi for BBL Trucking out of Clay City; a witness observed the semi run the red light & Smith was ticketed for disregarding an automated traffic signal. This accident is the second one at this location in about a week. It is still under investigation by the Gibson County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Doug Dewig was the primary investigating officer. Deputy Dewig was assisted by Sheriff Allen Harmon, Captain Jim Stoll, Deputy Jeff Hill, Conversation Officer Duane Englert, Patoka Township and Princeton Fire, Indiana State Police, INDOT, Gibson County EMS, and Life Flight.
