March 25, 2004- At approximately 11:30PM on March 25, 2004, Sgt. Mike Hurt with Princeton Police Department, stopped a vehicle on East Broadway for traffic violations. The driver was identified as Brian K. Ellis, 44, of Hazleton. During search of the vehicle a handgun was located by Deputy Brad Nixon with the Gibson County Sheriff's Department. Sgt. Mike Hurt noticed Ellis appeared to be under the influence of drugs. Sgt. Hurt transported Ellis to Gibson General Hospital for drug testing and suspected tested positive for drugs and was transported to the Gibson County Jail on charges of possession of a handgun with no permit and possession of a handgun by serious violent felon, and DWI with controlled substance. Also found in the vehicle was a bottle of unknown liquid that will be sent to the Indiana State Police Lab for testing. 

All charges are pending the prosecutor's review. Ellis is currently being held in the Gibson County Jail with no bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday. Assisting in the stop was officer Travis Livermore with Princeton PD and Gibson County Sheriff's Deputy Brad Nixon and Reserve Deputy Kevin McKannon.
