
April 8, 2004- At approximately 3:00AM, the sheriff's dept. received a 911 hang-up call. Dispatchers made several attempts to contact the caller. After contact was made the caller advised that a Douglas A Swope needed to be removed from the residence near Wheeling. The caller stated that he was destroying the residence. Deputies Bruce Vanoven, Bryan Ellis and Reserve Andy Spond, Vance Lloyd Francisco PD, Eric Walker with Oakland City PD, and Pike County Sheriff's Deputy Brad Jenkins were dispatched to the residence. Before deputies or officers arrived at the caller's residence Swope left the residence with a baby in his truck. Later Swope was located at a residence in Mt. Olympus with the baby. A Gibson County Ambulance was dispatched to check for injuries of the child. Swope was arrested and transported to the Gibson County Jail for battery on a child, domestic battery, and burglary resulting in bodily injury. He has no bond at as of press time was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
