Owensville Police Department Press Release

May 8, 2004- On May 7, 2004 at 7:22pm, Deputy Marshal Rodger Leister with the Owensville Police Department observed a maroon van north on Scott Street at a high rate of speed. The vehicle attempted to elude the officer in town. the vehicle then turned onto Ocean Wave Road and continued to flee at a high rate of speed. The vehicle then turned east onto county road 450 south, turned into a long driveway and the driver fled on foot into a wooded area. Officers from Owensville Police Department, Gibson County Sheriffs Department, Fort Branch Police Department, and Indiana State Police pursued the suspect through the wooded area. Deputy Sheriff K-9 Unit Tim Coomer and K-9 Bo tracked the suspect on the north side of state road 65. The pursuit lasted around one hour and thirty minutes before state troopers took the suspect into custody approximately 1.5 to 2 miles from the vehicle. The suspect was taken to Gibson General Hospital and treated for exhaustion where he was late admitted. Officer Leister will file pending charges of: Fleeing Law Enforcement, Operating while intoxicated controlled substance, Possession of Marijuana under 30 grams, Driving while suspended, and Auto theft.
